Course Description:
In this module we will provide an overview of crisis, crisis intervention and emergency services when working with children and families involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. It is followed by a presentation of some of the resources available to these clients and you when assessing and responding to crises.
Course Objective:
• Define crisis and the events or conditions that often come before an individual’s crisis in order to prevent the crisis or keep it from getting worse.
• List the steps to intervene in a crisis and manage both physical and social actions to promote safety of the individual, of others, and of the environment.
• List the steps to secure appropriate backup support and assistance through the resources of their agency, service system, and community.
• Describe the requirements for documenting and reporting crises appropriately.
• Match crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques to the individualized needs of children and families involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice system.
