The purpose of this module is to provide an introduction to intellectual and developmental disability, and additional material on professionalism and professional boundaries. The module concludes with a detailed discussion of cultural responsiveness and diversity. 
Course Objective:
• Describe the history of human services and how it has led to providing services in the community. 
• Define their roles in working with individuals with a developmental disability. 
• Define and describe the causes of developmental disabilities. 
• Identify specific professional expectations related to each of the following areas: appearance, confidentiality, driving, reporting information, respect, work habits, social skills, and boundaries. 
• Explain the importance of appreciating diversity on the team and in the work setting, and how one's culture impacts communication.
